Throw a 50th Birthday Masquerade party on a budget with easy DIY projects.
When I was a little girl my mom would always tell me and my sister that when she turned 50 years old she wanted a huge birthday party. 2017 was the year. My sister and I sat and planned the perfect celebration for our mom. It definitely was stressful but in the end, it was a success! We had family that traveled just to celebrate our mom’s special day. The memories we created will forever be in our minds and hearts. I wanted to share some of the DIY projects we did and share some pictures! Gold, black, and white 50th Birthday Masquerade Party on a budget details are below.
Masquerade Party
We decided on a Masquerade theme with black, gold, and white as the main colors. We asked everyone to bring a mask to go with the theme. I partnered with Oriental Trading for some of the decorations we wanted to use. They have everything you need for any party or occasion.
Gold Pearl Table Runner Roll
Black Personalized Napkins with Gold Foil
Gleaming Masquerade Masks
50th Birthday Sparkling Celebration Decorating Kit
Large Black Gumballs
Large Gold Gumballs
Large Shimmer White Gumballs
Decorations
We used ostrich feathers to add to the vase centerpieces. We did the party on a budget. We got all the vases and candlestick holders at Doller Tree. We glued them together to get some height. We glued the mini mask with a feather. We added gumballs in black, gold, and white to some of the vases.
We had white chocolate pretzels, various Hershey’s chocolates, gumballs, and other snacks. The adjacent table had cupcakes, chocolate covered marshmallows, cake pops, chocolate covered oreos, and chocolate pretzel rods. I order a 50th lollipop mold and melted some chocolate to make the lollipops.
We took white chocolate oreos to the next level with Masquerade mask and feathers made from molds. We used food safe gold dust to color the mask. The pictures don’t do it justice but it is a beautiful shimmery gold.
Photo Area
The photo area was a hit will all the guests. We used my DSLR camera to take pictures of guests. We had a table with extra Masquerade mask and props for those who wanted to use it.
Everyone got to be a little silly with fake mustaches, feather boas, and some classy fans.
DIY Gold Vase Filler
We needed an inexpensive way to fill up the vases. A bag of beans (we used black, pinto, garbanzo, etc) and some spray paint = easy cheap vase filler. It gets addicting. I wanted to spray paint alll the things gold but I settled for just the cupcake stand and beans. We used gold chargers we already had on hand to place the vases on top. We added another layer of gold by cutting circles on Gold Hologram paper. The beans were sprinkled on the tables as well to act as a sort of confetti.
We loved the way it turned out and cannot wait to try it on other projects. It is a beautiful bright gold color. It was tricky getting all the beans coated but I just keep mixing them around and spraying.
You can see we DIY a lot of the projects to save on cost. The centerpieces, decorations, desserts, and photo booth area were all DIY. We did a lot of the shopping at Dollar Tree and this party place down in Miami we always go to for inexpensive party supplies (let me know if anyone wants the info on that!).
