The busy season has started for us now that back to school has begun. Extracurricular activities also start with Saturday morning dance classes and baseball games. Back to school has us up earlier than normal (and Saturdays too!) and we definitely want our kids to have a filling breakfast. The kids have a long day ahead of them and I want to make sure they have energy to last throughout the day. Time is also a big factor so we look for recipes that are easy to whip up in the morning. The kids (and me!) have been enjoying this creamy Chocolate Cinnamon Oatmeal Smoothie. The recipe is so easy! You just throw everything in the blender and BAM! All done!

Growing up my abuela would always make me avena with canela. It was my favorite breakfast – she always made it perfectly. The right amount of sweetness. Cinnamon and leche condensada made the oatmeal deliciously creamy. It is one of the ingredients I use in the smoothie recipe to give it a hint of sweetness. The smoothie reminds me of the bowl of oatmeal I used to eat as a little girl. The addition of  NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Powder appeals to both of my kids! They love Nestle Nesquick chocolate.

Chocolate Cinnamon Oatmeal Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1 cup milk (I used 2%)
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 TBLS NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Powder Chocolate
  • 1 TSP ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups of ice
  • (optional) 1 TSP cinnamon Sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients into a blender. Blend until all ingredients are well mixed. Sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top. Serve immediately.
  2. (optional) Blend the oats first until it is a fine powder then add the remaining ingredients.

I love that the recipe is easy to create and makes a wonderful supplement for breakfast or after-school snacks. I usually like to serve it in the morning with a muffin or toast. I know they are getting the nutrition they need with the delicious chocolatey taste they love. They are getting 8g of protein for every 8 fluid ounces of low-fat milk. It contains 7 essential vitamins and minerals. As well as, 45% less sugar than the leading chocolate syrup brand. I remember my parents serving me Nesquik when I was a little girl. I loved drinking mine warm with a grilled cheese sandwich – it was my favorite snack.
