It is that time of year again – the hustle and bustle of Back to School. Getting the kids ready for school, making sure they get a nice hearty breakfast, and ensuring they have everything they need for the day. I look for easy breakfast solutions that help them start the day strong. Jimmy Dean® Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissant Sandwiches have come to the rescue! I know my kids are eating a delicious, satisfying, high quality breakfast item. When they get home from aftercare they are famished but I don’t want to give them a huge meal since I’ll have dinner ready son after. State Fair® Beef Corn Dogs have become my go-to snack item for my kids with its protein and signature honey-sweetened cornbread batter. Now that I have the food part taken care of I needed something that would help me organize the morning rush – the DIY Chalkboard Homework Station was exactly what I needed.

I remember when I was a school-aged girl, my parents had a lot of help from my abuela. She was an early riser so breakfast we always ready when I woke up. She always told me that breakfast is “muy importante para la salud“. I could not leave without having something to eat. She helped me with all of my school preparations. I don’t have my grandmother with me so I needed a solution for the morning craziness.

The DIY Chalkboard Homework Station has made it easier for me to get out the door faster. It has everything the kids may need for the day. It always amazed me to find that my son never had pencils in his backpack. He never could find them! Every morning I would ask him if he needed anything, I always got the same answer. Pencils. Now he can easily grab the pencils and sharpener before he heads out the door. It also helps me and my husband with reminders.I scribble little notes for my husband if he will get home before me. All of their supplies are there with the storage bins holding notebooks, paper, and folders.

Materials needed:

  • 24 x 24″ wood board (3/8th inch thickness)
  • Chalkboard paint
  • Foam brush
  • metal pencil holder containers
  • screws/washer

Instructions:

Using the foam brush start painting the chalkboard paint on your wood board. (Follow your package directions). I did three coats of chalkboard paint on my board. I allowed it to dry between each coat.

Using the washer and screw, carefully screw each of the metal pencil holders. Be sure to measure so that they are placed evenly on the board.

Step three.

(optional) Screw a scrap piece of wood with clips to the top of your board. (I bought mine in a Super Center for about $3 but you can create your own!).

Step four.

Enjoy your work! (Optional) You can hang this on the wall with heavy duty picture hanging kits. I have mine sitting on storage furniture.

Having simple meal solutions for breakfast with Jimmy Dean® Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissant Sandwiches and the afternoon snack taken care of with State Fair® Beef Corn Dogs, my days are a breeze! 4. What an amazing idea. I love the idea of having a designated area… we don’t homeschool, but it would be nice to have a place for the kids to do their homework. Thanks for the idea, I will be getting on this very soon. Oh and my kids love Jimmy Dean products… Yum
