How to Easily Organize Your Closet

How to Easily Organize Your Closet Post

Keeping our homes cleaned and organized can be a challenge sometimes when you have little kids at home. I rely on storage bins and baskets to keep the clutter under control. My hallway closet was a different story. When we moved into our new place, we lost closet space. We were left with just one closet for everything. Luckily, it was a big closet that was able to hold a lot of stuff. I knew the closet would constantly be used so I wanted it to look nice. Thirty-One Gifts had exactly what I needed – storage bins that could be personalized and different sizes for what I needed. I hope these tips help you easily organize your closet.

How to Easily Organize Your Closet

I’m going to keep it real and show how my closet looked before I decided it needed to be organized.

As you can see a complete mess. Boxes that hadn’t been unpacked, frames that hadn’t been hung, decorative pillows, and miscellaneous household items were all thrown in the closet. It was a catchall for everything.

Purge

Start by emptying everything from the closet. Make three separate piles – donations, keeping, and trash. Be honest with yourself. I had to do the same thing when I was going through the closet. I had so many frames that I didn’t use in the last house which means I most likely will not use in this smaller house. The boxes had dish sets – why do I have three different dish sets? I donated two sets and kept one for fancy dinners and gatherings. If you haven’t used an item in months or even years – it is time to let it go. Someone else can use it.

Organize Items

Organize the items you will be keeping in the closet. Sheet sets, towels, household supplies, art supplies, outdoor items, books, etc. My closet was a catchall – it will be used for everything. I don’t have any other closet in the hallway so this big closet became a linen closet and storage. I organized all the bedsheets, beach towels, pool toys, baseball equipment, school supplies, seasonal decor, and more.
