My kids look forward to Summer every year. This year my little 5 years old got to attend for the first time! She was so excited to join big brother on his camp adventures. She is also starting Kindergarten this year so I knew this would be a good little test to see how she’ll do when school starts. I was concerned about how she would do, she’s my little princess. When kids are introduced to a new environment, it can be difficult for them to adjust. I knew she would be exposed to all sorts of things being in a classroom with other kids. Germs travel! I didn’t want her to get sick.
How to Prepare for Summer Camp
Daily Vitamins
If you kids that are good eaters, they may not necessarily need a multi-vitamin. My kids are picky eaters and refuse to eat anything that is red, green or any other color that isn’t candy colored. I always think they are not eating enough so I give them a multi-vitamin every morning. They get the vitamins they are lacking and helps boost their immune system.
Have Medicine on Hand
Kids are bound to get sick, it happens. Just be prepared when it does happen. My 8-year old came home with a cough and running nose the other day. I was thankful to have the medicine he needed to kick it in the behind! Here are my “go-to” products for my medicine cabinet for kids:
- Ease those aches and pains, while reducing a child’s fever fast with Children’s Advil®*, a great solution for kids as young as 2 and up to 11. Children’s Advil® comes in several great-tasting flavors, including Sugar-free Dye-free Berry, Bubble Gum, Grape, Blue Raspberry, Fruit and Dye-Free White Grape flavors. There’s also Infants’ Advil® White Grape, which provides unsurpassed fever relief (among OTC pain relievers) with a syringe for easy dosing for children 6-23 months.
- For your child’s cough, trust Children’s Robitussin® Extended-Release 12 Hour Cough Relief to control and relieve symptoms all-day or all- night. Available in grape or orange flavor, for children ages 4 and up. Please note, certain Children’s Robitussin® products are only suitable for children ages 6 and up.
- Children’s Dimetapp® Multi-Symptom Cold Relief Dye-Free eases your child’s stuffy and runny nose, while quieting a bothersome cough. All in a great-tasting grape flavor that’s dye-free, for children ages 6 and up.
Label everything (water bottles, etc)
My kids bring their lunch and water bottle every day. I made sure to label everything because there is a chance someone can start drinking from the wrong bottle or my child can accidentally drink from someone else’s bottle. They go on field trips a few times a week and many times they need to bring plastic water bottles. Imagine figuring out who’s plastic water bottle belongs to who. There are over 30 kids! Definitely, want to avoid sharing any germs!
Sun block
Sunblock is a must. I put it on my kids before they leave the house and I also make them bring a small travel size bottle to reapply through out the day. I don’t want them getting any sunburns! They will sometimes wear baseball caps to cover their face from the sun.
Know the weekly schedule
The Summer camp schedule changes weekly so I have the schedule right on my fridge and we check it daily. I definitely don’t want them to miss out on fun activities or field trips if they are not prepared. As soon as you get, take a picture of it with your phone so you have it handy on the go but also put it up in a place that can easily be seen.
