A new survey of pediatricians (conducted by SERMO, the largest online network exclusively for physicians, in conjunction with Perrigo Nutritionals) looked at the most common questions new moms will ask, and one concern rose to the top: 52 percent of pediatricians say the number one topic of questions from new moms is about infant feeding. Infant feeding was definitely a concern for me because I was always told breastfeeding is best but I worried I wouldn’t be able to provide the amount of milk my baby needed.

The moment I knew I was going to be a mom for the first time, I was filled with questions. Everything was going to be new to me. Me, take care of a tiny human? I felt overwhelmed and unprepared. Will I breastfeed, will I formula feed, will I do both? These were some of the questions I would ask myself. When I found a group of moms who were going to be first time moms too, I was thrilled. I knew I would be able to voice my concerns or any questions I had when it came to feeding my baby. I also relied on my pediatrician but sometimes it is nice to talk to other women who are going through the same thing as you. Definitely recommend looking for a group of first time moms on baby forums or even Facebook.

What most moms don’t know is that the FDA strictly regulates infant formula to keep little ones safe, so store brand infant formulas, like Walmart’s Parent’s Choice and Target’s Up and Up, are nutritionally comparable to national brands like Enfamil® and Similac® and meet FDA standards. Most importantly, pediatricians agree! According to the “Pulse of Pediatricians” survey, 71 percent of pediatricians believe all infant formulas are basically the same; the brand doesn’t matter. Parents can feel good about using store brand formula and they can even save up to $600 per year; without compromising quality!
