I can’t believe Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. Where did the time go? My family takes turn hosting holidays so for Thanksgiving we go to my aunt’s house. It is a full house! But I would not have it any other way! Everyone mingling with each other, the kids running around, the smell of delicious food lingering in the air – it is the perfect Thanksgiving scene to me. I’m sharing some of my Thanksgiving activities for kids. thanksgivingforkids

I like entertaining the little kids – they make me laugh so much! We typically have about 6-7 kids that are part of Thanksgiving dinner. I wanted to get activities to entertain them. Since we have such cool weather around Thanksgiving, some of us dine outside with the kids. They kids will be sitting in the Little Tikes Easy Store Picnic Table with umbrella. It is the perfect table as six kids can fit at once! They are able to do activities and eat their Thanksgiving dinner. Once they are done, the table easily folds! I love that it can be store away easily!

  1. Let kids color their own Thankgiving placemats. I found these on Amazon and love that they can color, use the stickers, or do the dot to dot activity.
  2. Create Your own Turkey. I loved these sticker sets from Oriental Trading. Perfect for making cute little turkeys!
  3. Read a Thanksgiving story. My kids love Pete the Cat: The First Thanksgiving. The book is cute because it has little surprises when you open the different flaps.
  4. Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. I’ve been watching the parade for as long as I can remember. I born and raised in New York City and I never got to see the parade in person. Hopefully one day with the kids!
  5. Have them write something they are thankful for (then have them share it when they give thanks). We used to do this in school every year, then we would bring it home and shares on Thanksgiving day.

Do you have activities you do with the kids to keep them entertained?

  1. The sticker sets are so cute! I especially love the suggestion to have kids write what they are thankful for. My kids have done this and it’s definitely something worth saving – the memories of what you are thankful for is fun to read down the road. And so cute to see how it changes. Great ideas!!

  2. Love these ideas. On thanksgiving we put up our tree and this year we are going to enjoy some movies and of course the parade. I am even thinking of taking them to our local parade too.

  3. This is a great way to teach kids how to be thankful. I believe it is our duty as adults to help them learn how to be thankful in a very young age. These activities are fun and beneficial at the same time.

  4. Thanks for the ideas! These are all great ways to teach our kids to be thankful starting at a young age. I’m going to have my son do a few crafts to keep him busy today so that he won’t watch TV all day!

  5. Now that my baby is three years old, I need to be more intentional about teaching him about the holidays and their meanings. These will be great crafts and activities for him to do. I’ll enjoy working alongside him.

  6. We are always looking for ideas to keep all the kids entertained. They all like different things so this is a great variety of things to introduce them to. I am sure it will help to keep them busy while we get everything ready to eat dinner.

  7. Creating our own turkeys has been a tradition for our family for many years! My mother was a grade school teacher so we always had fun crafts to do as kids. It carried on through my kids and now my grandchildren and I wouldn’t change it for the world! 🙂

  8. This year my kids watched the Macy’s Parade for the first time. They were very excited and it kept them out of my hair while I prepped Thanksgiving dinner. Next year I would like to do one of the other ideas you suggested. Thank you so much for sharing.
