A new survey of pediatricians (conducted by SERMO, the largest online network exclusively for physicians, in conjunction with Perrigo Nutritionals) looked at the most common questions new moms will ask, and one concern rose to the top: 52 percent of pediatricians say the number one topic of questions from new moms is about infant feeding. Infant feeding was definitely a concern for me because I was always told breastfeeding is best but I worried I wouldn’t be able to provide the amount of milk my baby needed.
The moment I knew I was going to be a mom for the first time, I was filled with questions. Everything was going to be new to me. Me, take care of a tiny human? I felt overwhelmed and unprepared. Will I breastfeed, will I formula feed, will I do both? These were some of the questions I would ask myself. When I found a group of moms who were going to be first time moms too, I was thrilled. I knew I would be able to voice my concerns or any questions I had when it came to feeding my baby. I also relied on my pediatrician but sometimes it is nice to talk to other women who are going through the same thing as you. Definitely recommend looking for a group of first time moms on baby forums or even Facebook.
What most moms don’t know is that the FDA strictly regulates infant formula to keep little ones safe, so store brand infant formulas, like Walmart’s Parent’s Choice and Target’s Up and Up, are nutritionally comparable to national brands like Enfamil® and Similac® and meet FDA standards. Most importantly, pediatricians agree! According to the “Pulse of Pediatricians” survey, 71 percent of pediatricians believe all infant formulas are basically the same; the brand doesn’t matter. Parents can feel good about using store brand formula and they can even save up to $600 per year; without compromising quality!
Perrigo Nutritionals Store Brand Formula’s “Pulse of Pediatricians” Survey Results:
- A new, nationwide survey of pediatricians looked at the most common questions new moms will ask. 97 percent of pediatricians say feeding is one of the top three categories new moms ask about and more than half (52 percent) of pediatricians say feeding is the number one topic new moms ask about.
- “Pooping” questions were second (43 percent of respondents). Sleeping was third (41 percent).
- The results were based on a nationwide survey of pediatricians conducted by SERMO, the largest online network exclusively for physicians.
- According to the survey, 71 percent of pediatricians believe all infant formulas are basically the same; the brand doesn’t matter.
- The American Academy of Pediatrics and other experts agree on the benefits of breastfeeding; these experts also agree that infant formula is a safe, science-supported, nutritious means to nourish babies.
- Most moms don’t know that the FDA strictly regulates formula to keep little ones safe, so store brand formulas, like Wal-Mart’s Parent’s Choice and Target’s Up & Up, are nutritionally comparable to national brands like Enfamil® and Similac® and meet FDA standards.
- By switching to store brand formula, a family can save up to $600 per year without compromising quality. Visit www.storebrandformula.com for formula coupons and more information.

I was surprised to see the result that 71 percent of pediatricians believe all infant formulas are basically the same. I remember my daughter’s pediatrician pushing a certain brand over others. My daughter actually fed my grandson the BJ’s store brand formula once we realized it was the same thing as name brands.

Yes I do buy store brand formula – Target and/or Walmart. I’m not surprised by the survey at all – Feeding and poop questions were always at the top of my list! lol
It is good to know the FDA regulates formula, that you don’t need a fancy name brand. It doesn’t really surprise me that pediatricians think formula is pretty much the same – docs are still in the dark willfully about nutrition – if if doesn’t have to do with medication! And I’m not surprised at the new moms’ questions – eating, pooping, sleeping are all important!
I have never bought store brand formula.
I used to work for a food manufacturer so I know that the “big labels” often make private store label items under a non-disclosure agreement. It’s often the exact. same. stuff. so I don’t feel bad about trying private/store label items.
