I was never a baseball cap wearing girl until I went to Disney on a Summer day. It is HOT! Walking in the blazing sun with no shade in sight. A baseball cap was a necessity. I bought The Little Mermaid hat, of course. If you’ve been following my blog you know I love anything mermaid, so you know I had to have the Ariel cap I found at Epcot. My collection of baseball caps has grown since then. But this DIY Summer baseball cap is my fave because it is rose gold heat transfer vinyl. Rose gold is so pretty in person. The photos do not do it justice.

Have you guys used rose gold vinyl on any projects lately? I’m late to the game!  I am trying to find anything to rose gold vinyl now. This baseball cap is going to be my “go-to” hat for the summer. Those mornings when I need to take my kids to summer camp and don’t feel like doing my hair – yup baseball cappin’ it.

To make this DIY Summer Baseball Cap, you’ll need:

  1. Open Silhouette Studio and open the FREE “Beach Please” cutting file.
  2. Based on the baseball hat you are putting the design on, size your image. (Mine is about 4.7 inches across and 2.8 inches in height)
  3. Since we are working with heat transfer vinyl, you must mirror your image (flip it horizontally).
  4. Place your Rose Gold (or preferred color HTV) on your cutting mat shiny side down. Load your mat. Set your cutting material (heat transfer – smooth is what I selected) if you have the Silhouette 3 or adjust your blade if you have an older machine. I always, always test cut.
  5. Once the design has been cut, start weeding!
  6. Place the design on the hat and be sure it is aligned. Using the Clover Mini Iron, carefully (it gets hot) press the design on the hat. It will adhere pretty quickly so be sure to not leave the iron in one spot. I did use a Teflon sheet on top of my vinyl to protect the vinyl and hat.
  7. Carefully peel the clear backing and admire your work!

I have so many ideas for hats now! It was so easy to make and the hats are $2.97 at Walmart. You seriously cannot beat that! They have a variety of styles and colors so be sure to browse the accessories area at Walmart so you can make your own custom baseball hat!

  1. How adorable! I am not super crafty but I am always jealous of the amazing projects people make with their cutting tools. This would be a fun way to personalize a cap to your style.

  2. I have a Cricut, and iron-on vinyl projects are some of my favorite. I haven’t tried a hat project, though. I’m not really a hat wear-er, so may that is why. I have wanted to make a few for my husband. Maybe I will try that next.

  3. Oh la la, I am loving this DIY baseball hate detailing! The family and I just had our annual reunion and we were struggling to decide on what apparel we could all have. I think we all do this next year! Bookmarked!

  4. This is such a fun idea, I’m not much of a hat person, but this would be fun to make for the kids. I’ve always wanted to get a Silhouette Cameo or Cricut, it’s a ‘i will get it one day’. I love a good DIY project.

  5. Baseball caps are a must-have during the summer time! I love that you shared a way to do a DIY project with them. It looks so easy to do! I can’t wait to start thinking of ideas that I’ll use for a design.
