I wanted a way to display pictures from my FujiFilm Instax mini 70 but was having no luck so I decided to create an easy DIY mini wood frame myself. The project is easy and inexpensive! You can create a few different ones from 2 piece of wood (which I picked up at Lowe’s Home Improvement stores). The best part is that you can customize it however you want. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a stencil to paint my saying on but you can also use vinyl on it to remove and change up the phrases whenever you want.
Supplies:
- 1/2 x 3 x 24″ craft board (from Lowe’s)
- 3/8 x 6 x 24″ craft board (from Lowe’s)
- Clips (from Michael’s Craft Store)
- Wood glue
- Wood stain, your choice of color
- Foam brush
- Arcylic paint
- Silhouette Cameo
- Stencil material
- Spouncer
- 1 Small Screw (and Screwdriver)
- Sandpaper (optional)
You want to measure and cut the wider piece to be 7 3/8 inches (this would be the frame holding your picture) and the skinnier piece to 8 inches. You can cut the remainder to make additional frames (totally up to you). I used sandpaper to smooth my edges. I wiped it with a damp cloth to remove any dust. Once it was dry I started putting on my stain. I used a foam brush to brush it on and an old cloth rag to remove it. I actually did 2 coats (with about 2-3 hours in between coats) since I wanted a rich espresso color. While it was drying I went to the Silhouette store to find the word I wanted to put on my wood piece. I found “LOVE” in my gallery and thought it would be perfect for Valentine’s Day. Using my stencil material, I cut it with my Silhouette machine.
With my stencil all cut out, I grabbed a small spouncer and applied the white acrylic paint. I allowed that to dry.
Next I screwed the clips to the center of the board with a small screw. Side note: I actually spray painted the clip and screw that I wanted to use so that they match. Once it was in place I added the wood glue to the bottom of my bigger board and glued it to the smaller piece. Allow plenty of time to dry!
Once it is completely dry, clip on your favorite Instax picture or use a small picture! You can change up the picture as much as you want, love that!
If you have any questions, just let me know! I added all the products I used below!
Love this project! I got my 6 y/o granddaughter one of the cameras for Christmas & she loves it. This is a project we can do together to show off her photos. Thanks for posting it!
